STATE ROUTE 73
ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY

To address the growth and travel demands of Eagle Mountain and surrounding areas, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) conducted a State Environmental Study (SES) along Cory B. Wride Memorial Highway (S.R. 73) from Pioneer Crossing to Eagle Mountain Blvd. The SES evaluated the impacts of and determined a preferred alignment for a future Freeway with Frontage Roads system that will reduce projected traffic congestion and travel delay. UDOT considered stakeholder input during the study through a complete public involvement process.

FREEWAY WITH FRONTAGE ROADS VISUALIZATION*

UDOT completed a six-month Corridor Planning Study in January 2016. The Corridor Planning Study team recommended a Freeway with Frontage Roads concept based on preliminary evaluation of several transportation concepts and stakeholder input.

The Corridor Planning Study recommended the Freeway with Frontage Roads design and width above because it:

Effectively addresses projected congestion through 2040
Preserves the width needed for both short- and long-term transportation needs
Maintains access to local roads while allowing commuters to bypass them and reduce congestion
Accommodates future transit and is compatible with frontage road bike lanes and trail improvements
Provides sufficient separation between the frontage roads and freeway lanes, eliminating the need to build expensive soil-retaining walls

TRANSPORTATION PROJECT TIMELINE

The State Environmental Study is the next phase necessary to fulfill all required environmental clearances, allocate funding and preserve the land needed to build the preferred alignment.
